1. Does an Ecoglo system comply with the New Zealand Building Code?
Ecoglo produces a range of signs that comply with F8 Signs, Acceptable Solution 1. Ecoglo also provides alternative solutions to meet NZBC Clause F8 Signs and NZBC Clause F6 Visibility in Escape Routes (see Code Compliance). Ecoglo also supplies a range of products to meet the step contrast requirements of NZBC Clause D1 Access.
2. How much light do you need to charge an Ecoglo system?
Ecoglo products are charged by natural light or artificial light. The amount of luminance required to charge a system varies depending on the Risk Category of the building and the type of system (F6 or F8) that is installed. Minimum charging luminance for F8/AS1 is 100 lux but the charging requirements for alternative solutions for F6 and F8 are detailed in the Architectural Specification documents and also in the Solution documents found in Code Compliance.
3. Does the system work out of doors?
Yes, Ecoglo is rated for outdoor use.
4. What are the best lights to use to charge an Ecoglo system?
Fluorescent, metal halide or LED lights with a colour temperature of 4000K or above are the best artificial light sources for Ecoglo. If natural sunlight is available this is the best source for charging Ecoglo and can provide standalone charging or enhance the charging from artificial light.
Halogen and other incandescent filament lights are not as rich in UV so will need to be tested for brightness to determine Ecoglo performance.
5. How long will Ecoglo last before it needs replacing?
Accelerated testing shows minimal degradation over the equivalent of 30 years of outdoor exposure.
6. How does the system respond to cleaning?
Tests have shown that an Ecoglo system will not be affected by most cleaning chemicals, however avoid the use of highly alkaline (greater than pH 12) undiluted cleaning chemicals. Many Ecoglo installations use high pressure water cleaning with no affect on the product. Steam cleaning is not recommended.
7. Is the system patented?
Ecoglo International Ltd has been granted patents in a wide range of jurisdictions. The patents apply to the method of production, the apparatus used in production and the product itself.
Additional patent applications have been lodged relating to advances made by Ecoglo’s ongoing research and development activities.
8. How comprehensive has your testing been?
To gain accreditation with the International Code Commission the Ecoglo product set was subjected to a range of ASTM tests for performance including luminance, washability, non-slip performance and resilience, UV resistance and others. To meet the performance requirements of NZBC F8 and F6 Ecoglo was tested with an independent laboratory to define the minimum luminance criteria for visibility. See Code Compliance.
