TORONTO, Ontario—Leading commercial tenants in Toronto have recently identified building safety as a top priority in an overall ‘healthy’ workplace. In response to this increase in concern for safety issues, Cadillac Fairview is furthering their commitment to the well being of their tenants by installing a unique emergency illumination system, Ecoglo®.
This system does not rely or batteries or a generator, it is charged by regular fluorescent lighting within 20 minutes. By installing this innovative technology Cadillac Fairview enhances the safety features of the properties at the Toronto Eaton Centre with a failsafe method for on-demand emergency lighting back up at all times.
“As tenants of the Eaton Centre, we are pleased that concern for our safety is of uppermost importance to Cadillac Fairview. Their implementation of a new emergency lighting system helps bring peace of mind with regard to building safety and employee wellbeing,” comments Byron Sonberg, Managing Director Goodmans LLP.
Already widely in use across the United States and in Europe, Ecoglo® helps facilitate quick and easy egress for Toronto Eaton Centre tenants during emergency situations and blackouts.
The Ecoglo® technology will be fixed on the edge of stairs, walls and handrails in the Toronto Eaton Centre to illuminate the boundaries of emergency exit space. In the event of a power failure, this newly retrofitted emergency system will light up for up to forty hours helping to further the safety of exiting tenants. Illuminated directional signage will also be put into place to complete the emergency program at the Toronto Eaton Centre.
The $750,000 project has already begun throughout the properties with 250 Yonge Street nearing completion, and 20 Queen St., 1 Dundas (office towers) and the retail centre to be completed by August 2004.
